NAR reports 2.2% decrease in July home sales
The National Association of Realtors announced home sales fell 2.2% in July 2023 when compared to June 2023.
NAR also found home sales decreased 16.6% nationally from 2022 to 2023.
NAR’s June 2023 pending home sales numbers by region include:
- Northeast — 5.9% decrease
- Midwest — 3% decrease
- South — 2.6% decrease
- West — 2.7% increase
“Two factors are driving current sales activity — inventory availability and mortgage rates,” said Lawrence Yun, NAR chief economist. “Unfortunately, both have been unfavorable to buyers. Most homeowners continue to enjoy large wealth gains from recent years with little concern about home price declines. However, many renters are concerned as they’re facing growing affordability challenges because of high interest rates.”
