Greenville County Schools announced students will return to school Oct. 9.
Teachers and staff will have a workday on Oct. 8 to revise their instructional plans after the eight-day school closure. School and district offices will also be open to the public on Oct. 8.
Transportation was a key factor in delaying the opening to Wednesday, according to the district’s announcement. Several bus routes have been modified due to storm damage and temporary bus stops will be created. Bus drivers will practice these alternative routes on Oct. 8.

“Following tomorrow’s assessment, a delay of routes on Wednesday may be necessary; however, buildings will be open at their regular times and will accept walkers and car riders at the regular times. We ask that if families receive a phone call from the District or an unfamiliar number, please answer the call and listen to voicemails to receive your alternative bus stop location,” according to the district.
The instructional calendar will also be altered to “allow for the time to make up missed content,” according to the announcement. The first quarter of the district’s grading period will be extended by five instructional days, from Oct. 11 to Oct. 21. The second-quarter end date will not change.
