Construction is underway for the new elementary school at 61 Isbell Lane in Greenville.
Set to open for the 2025-26 school year, the new school will have an academic focus on environmental science and serve pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade students. The facility was designed to accommodate up to 750 students with room for future expansion.
The approximately 110,000-square-foot school is being built on the former site of J.L. Mann High Academy which relocated to Fairforest Way. Since the high school’s athletic fields remain on the former site, the construction project will include reconfiguring the softball and practice fields.
Greenville County Schools board of trustees approved the appropriation of an additional $4.9 million to the project Feb. 27. This funding will come out of the the school system’s unassigned general fund.
Additional costs were identified as a result of inflation, increased labor costs, ongoing market price instability and supply chain issues. The elementary school’s total estimated cost is now $56.7 million.
The project’s construction began in fall of 2023. The new school has yet to be officially named.
An ad hoc committee of trustee members is tasked with choosing the official name for the new elementary school. The committee is collecting name submissions from community stakeholders and the general public.
Submissions by the public will be accepted online until April 1. For more information, visit https://www.greenville.k12.sc.us/Parents/main.asp?titleid=2403name.
After completing the selection process, the board of trustees will vote on the name in May 2024.
