Mission Statement:
The Family Effect provides contributors and volunteers the opportunity to make a difference in the community by supporting the Phoenix Center of Greenville, which works to prevent and treat substance use/misuse and behavioral-health disorders and chronic health conditions.
Through TFE’s fundraising and volunteer efforts on behalf of the Phoenix Center, the nonprofit organization strives to reduce addiction as a leading cause of family collapse and harm to children in Upstate South Carolina.
TFE, in addition to raising funds, recruits volunteers for effective, research-based programs at the center. Among others, those Phoenix Center programs include:
- Serenity Place provides comprehensive, residential treatment to pregnant women, young mothers and preschool-age children each year
- Outpatient treatment for adolescent boys and girls through age 17 provides a holistic environment of healing and education
- Addiction prevention education with certified prevention specialists
- Medically monitored detoxification and outpatient treatment services for adults
The Family Effect believes that saving children and families through philanthropy and volunteerism returns significant benefits to the entire community.
Impact:
In 2023, The Family Effect reported these fundraising accomplishments, among others:
- Total dollars raised: $1,067,839.23
Raised at the Transformation Breakfast: $1,041,289.23
Board members contributed: $57,508.21
Board member donation participation: 100%
Grants received: Six
Grant funds raised: $26,550.00
These and other efforts impacted a variety of programs, including:
- Serenity Place, which assists about 120 pregnant women, young mothers and preschool-age children each year. Nearly 84% of the center’s women and children achieve their treatment goals while in the program.
- Prevention-education efforts help more than 20,000 students and adults each year. The center also works closely with law enforcement to improve the community environment for teenagers. That initiative has dramatically reduced the number of local retail stores selling alcohol and tobacco to minors.
