Using food as a tool to nourish the hungry and train the unemployed
Project Host operates a soup kitchen six days a week offering a hot meal, no questions asked. Project Host is also home to the CC Pearce Culinary School, a six-week culinary arts school focused on training the unemployed and under-employed for a career in a commercial kitchen. Students enrolled in the six-week culinary school learn skills by preparing scratch-made, nutritious meals to over 300 children of low-income families throughout Greenville. Referrals to our training program come from collaborations with other nonprofits like Jasmine Road, Goodwill, United Ministries, Miracle Hill and many others.
A recent graduate of our program is currently employed by Project Host in our bakery!
The Hostmobile food truck and onsite bakery are designed to employ graduates on a part-time basis to further enforce lessons learned in the culinary school acting as a stepping stone on the path to gainful employment and financial stability.
Project Host is also home to a greenhouse and garden that are vital in helping to offset the cost of fresh produce. The garden generates over one ton of produce in the summer alone. This fresh produce is utilized in the preparation of meals served to guests in the soup kitchen and in the meals prepared by students in the culinary school.
